Around the city of Heraklion there are many well organized beaches to visit during the summer period, which are easy to access from the Capsis Astoria. Some of the beaches closer to the city are:

The beach of Amnisos is East of Heraklion in a distance of 8 km. A great Minoan mansion was discovered there with the famous mural of the lilies that is now exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion. The beach area has modern leisure facilities for swimming and restaurants with seafood delights.

Hani Kokkini  is 12klm East from Heraklion and is a well organized beach ideal for water sports. There are plenty of beach bars and restaurants in the area.

The beach of Ammoudara is 5 klm West from Heraklion. It is an extended beach area with well organized tourism facilities and maritime leisure activities. Due to its wind currents, it is considered an ideal location for Wind surfing and Kite surfing.

Linoperamata  is an area 8 klm West from the center of Heraklion with an organized beach. Many resorts, restaurants and cafes.

Palaiokastron is a well protected from the winds small beach 10 klm West from Heraklion. The area owes its name to the old Venetian fortress under which the beach lies.

Agia Pelagia:  Situated west from the city of Heraklion, the village of Agia Pelagia is known for its beautiful beaches with crystal clear water. There are a lot of cafes, beach bars and traditional tavernas at the area

The beach of Lygaria  is 20 klm West from the center of Heraklion  and is known not only for its beautiful setting, but also for its fish tavernas.
